Mike has 20+ years of experience helping small to mid-size organizations succeed. Having worked as an Accounting Manager, Controller, and Chief Financial Officer for various mid-size organizations with $10 to $100 million in sales, Mike has gained extensive hands-on operational experience that included opportunities to wear many hats. In addition to his accounting and finance expertise, he has managed Human Resources, Operations, IT, Sales, and Customer Service departments while working in the printing, publishing, manufacturing, telecommunications, e-commerce, and wholesale distribution industries. This broad and varied background gives Mike the ability to see and understand the big picture and provide both tactical and strategic insight to the business owner or CEO.
Mike understands that successful mid-size companies learn to do more with less and view cash as king. He is an avid proponent of continuous improvement with the proven ability to minimize costs by effectively streamlining operations, enhancing internal controls, and implementing cost saving technologies. A turnaround and crisis management specialist, he successfully transitioned the back-office of a failing California start-up company by relocating it to Nebraska and streamlining processes to reduce staff requirements by 67%. Continued cost reductions, operational enhancements, and an aggressive sales strategy helped to reverse an $800k monthly cash burn into positive cash flow within 18 months. Four years later, the once nearly bankrupt company sold for more than $10 million.
Mike is skilled at identifying and implementing scalable technology solutions to improve operational efficiencies and profitability. Building foundations for growth, he has researched, recommended, and implemented various financial and accounting systems as well as CRM, HRIS, Recruiting, and Customer Help Desk and Support applications.
Being highly proficient in developing business models to capture, analyze, and manipulate key business drivers enables Mike to identify strategic opportunities to improve profitability and grow the business. He is skilled at developing and implementing the essential business metrics to benchmark, communicate, manage, and improve operational and financial performance.
Throughout his career, Mike has gained valuable finance experience working with various debt structures to include standard bank financing and restructuring, venture capitalist funding, and private equity funding. His experience also includes merger and acquisitions, due diligence, and divestitures activity.
Mike earned B.A. degrees in Business Administration and Accounting from Bellevue University and subsequently obtained his Nebraska CPA Certificate. Originally from Omaha, Mike resides in Lincoln Nebraska with his wife Kathy, son Nathan, and daughter Michaela.
